Qindao, China

During Autumn Festival (2025) I took the train from Shanghai up to Qindao. I love train travel in China. It was about 5hrs or so. Travelling on the train is quite fun especially during Autumn Festival where everyone is excited about the holiday. I found myself sitting at the table with a family and despite the language barrier I had a lovely time with them.

Qindao is a beautful coast city and known for German Architecture, beaches, parks, the home of Tsingtao beer and the seafood is stunning. There is so much to discover in this lovely city. Here are a few of my favourite places.

I walked around 17km of the Coastal Walk Way I enjoyed the contrast of the rocky areas and the beautiful beaches.

Walking around Qindao I noticed lots of art installations including the May Fourth monument found in May Fourth Square

It was quite an interesting experience coming out of the metro and being surrounded by German architechure and being in China. I enjoyed spending a lot of time walking around Qindao and admiring all of the architecture.

I enjoy the peacefulness and daily life that can be found at the temples. In Qindao I spent quite a bit of time at Qingdao Zhanshan Temple. I had a lovely conversation with a university student who was wanting to practice their English and was interested in where I was from. It is always interesting these conversations and learning more about China.

Street art and the instagram famous ‘Red Wall’

There is plenty to see and do including the Olympic Sailing Village – I totally recommend a visit to Qingdao. October was a perfect time.
