New Delhi, India

Earlier in the year I attended and IB workshop in New Delhi. In the workshop information was the contact details for organising an evening tour. I couldn’t not take advantage of this!  First stop in the evening tour was the Qutub Minar

The Qutub Minar is the tallest tower in India and the foundation was laid in 1199AD! It is the earliest extant mosque built by Delhi Sultans. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site and UNESCO have an interesting video with more information

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib – Sikh Temple
Out in the kitchen – huge pots of food!

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is a large Sikh temple in New Delhi. We arrived around dinner time. A key belief in Sikhism is that everyone it equal. This was very clear to see at dinner. Anyone can eat a free vegetarian meal prepared by many volunteers. Everyone sits on the floor next to each other regardless of whether they are rich or not.

Me and the tour guide from Sun Tours

We drove around the city, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and the sights, stopping for a masala chai tea from a street vendor – I loved the masala tea. We continued our journey, driving past the Government Buildings, which were all lit up in a beautiful colourful display of lights.

The India Gate was lit up and very impressive as it stands 42 metres tall.

Below are some photos I took traveling to the IB workshop. It was interesting to see daily life. Cows really do walk down the roads, leisurely meandering alongside the traffic. It was a short visit and I am really pleased to have booked the evening tour which showed me a quick snapshot of New Delhi and some of what it has to offer.
